THE PROBLEM
Current methods of inspection, reporting and recording are slow and labor intensive
Draper needed to quickly implement an inspection system that could keep up with the volume of inspections required of a growing city as required by state and federal regulations. Prior to using UtiliSync, Draper’s field inspections were documented via email, excel spreadsheets, and handwritten inspections. It became challenging and time consuming to combine all the inspection material into one report so that it could be sent out to a recipient. This process took much of the inspector’s time away from performing needed city inspections.
THE SOLUTION
UtiliSync offers a mobile GIS platform to reduce time and cost
UtiliSync is extremely fast and easy to implement and use on a variety of mobile devices. The app can be used for any time of inspection. Draper City uses it for SWPPP inspections on construction sites, storm drain discharge pipes, and City facility inspections. The app clearly reduced the amount of time spent per inspection and increased the number of Draper’s field inspections. Draper’s City manager recognizes that “UtiliSync has been able to let 1 or 2 inspectors perform the job of 3 to 4 in the same amount of time or less.” It also required no modifications to any existing software/hardware used by the city. It was found that less time is spent in the office filling out inspections, and more time out in the field inspecting. This greatly increases the City’s level of service to its residents by identifying problems sooner.
